The Faces of Anasphere
-
Dr. John Bognar
Ph.D., Analytical/Atmospheric Chemistry, University of Colorado, Boulder, CO, 1998
B.S., Chemistry, Montana State University, Bozeman, MT, 1993
Dr. Bognar is the founder and president of Anasphere, Inc. He received his bachelor's
degree in Chemistry from Montana State University in 1993, and his Ph.D. in Analytical
and Atmospheric Chemistry from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1998. He
founded Anasphere with the goal of developing and commercializing miniature instruments
for analytical, atmospheric, and environmental applications and research. His particular
area of interest is the development of miniature (sub-kilogram), low-power instruments
for in-situ atmospheric measurements. A new area of interest is education and outreach
through the implementation of a new website, lesson development to accompany instruments,
and guided launches and demonstrations. Dr. Bognar has an extensive teaching background
as well. He taught general and organic chemistry at Front Range Community College in
Westminster, CO from 2000-2003, and general and analytical chemistry at Montana State
University from 2003-2005. He was also the Flight Director for the BOREALIS student
sounding balloon program at Montana State University from 2004-2006. Dr. Bognar is an
instrument rated pilot and loves to fly his Cessna 182 in his free time. In addition to
flying, he spends his time ballroom dancing and rock collecting.

Tom Seitel
M.S. Computer Science, Montana State University, Bozeman, MT, 2006
B.S. Physics, Montana State University, Bozeman, MT, 1994
Tom Seitel has a strong background in both physics and computer science. At Anasphere, Inc.,
he has overseen the laboratory testing of multiple sensors developed here in our laboratory.
He wrote the pc and microcontroller software to drive the SmartTether system of wireless networked
environmental sensors. He has also written the data acquisition software for the AnaSonde and
the cloud water (CWC) sensor, as well as software and firmware for various in-house projects.
He implemented and runs Anasphere's online store and is the company system administrator.
Tom loves to ski, hike, and learn foreign languages.

Dr. Matthew Seidel
Ph.D. Analytical/Environmental Chemistry, University of Montana, Missoula, MT, 2006
B.S. Chemistry, Pacific University, Forest Grove, OR, 2001
Dr. Seidel received his B.S. in Chemistry from Pacific University in 2001 and his Ph.D.
in Analytical and Environmental Chemistry from the University of Montana in 2006. His education
has provided him with a strong background in analytical and environmental chemistry as well as in
sensor design and development. His research background involves the development of an in-situ
autonomous sensor for pH (SAMI-pH) which has been deployed off the coasts of California and
Washington, in the Labrador Sea, and on a coral reef off the coast of Puerto Rico. Dr. Seidel's
area of emphasis at Anasphere is the development and refinement of multiple new and existing
sensors including the cloud water content (CWC) sensor and the CO2 sensor. When he is not at
Anasphere, Dr. Seidel is an avid outdoorsman who loves to take advantage of being in Bozeman by
hunting, fishing, camping, and playing soccer.

Scot Jacobsen
B.S., Chemistry with minor in Mechanical Engineering, Metropolitan State College of Denver, Denver, CO, 2003
A.S., Mechanical Drafting, Salt Lake City Community College, Salt Lake City, UT, 1988
Scot Jacobsen's background is in mechanical design and engineering. He has worked for numerous
manufacturing and aerospace companies since he received his A.S. in Mechanical Drafting in 1988.
He later obtained a B.S. in Chemistry with a minor in Mechanical Engineering in 2003. Scot's
primary duties at Anasphere include product development for both new and current projects. He
also provides support wherever it is needed and has plans to take part in the educational side
of Anasonde sales. Scot spends a lot of his free time coaching youth football and basketball
in Denver and was recently named the freshman basketball coach at a local high school.

Brittany Hunt
B.S., Physics Option in Chemistry, Montana State University, Bozeman, MT, 2005
B.S., Modern Languages and Literature - Spanish, Montana State University, Bozeman, MT, 2005
Brittany Hunt graduated from Montana State University in 2005 with degrees in Physics and Spanish.
From 2003-2005, Brittany worked with the undergraduate research project, BOREALIS, where she was
the hardware team leader, communication team leader (at times), and also worked in experimental
design. Brittany's main focus will be working with the technical hardware and communication
options for many of the systems here at Anasphere. In her spare time, Brittany enjoys reading,
learning to fly fish, and working towards her black belt in tae kwon do.

Anna Bognar
Anna Bognar has been a part of Anasphere since its commencement in 2002. Anna's primary
responsibilities include bookkeeping and overseeing company accounts. She has experience in
accounting as well as an extensive pharmaceutical background from fifteen years experience as a
pharmacy technician in both Denver and Bozeman. Aside from being a full-time mom, Anna
particularly enjoys gardening with the beautiful scenery of the Gallatin Valley as a backdrop.
In fact, she would garden full time if she could!

Brianna Gillund
B.S., Biology, Montana State University, Bozeman, MT, 2008
B.S., General Science Broadfield Secondary Education, Montana State University, Bozeman, MT, 2008
Brianna Gillund has been a part of the Anasphere team for a good part of her college career. She is
actively finishing two degrees in Biology and Secondary Science Education at Montana State University
here in Bozeman. Brianna's work at Anasphere focuses on education and outreach as well as the new
cloud water content sensor. When she is not hard at work at Anasphere, you can find Brianna camping,
boating, hiking, or reading somewhere in Montana!

Alexander Bognar
Degree in Progress, Train Conductor, Preschool, Bozeman, MT
Currently, Alexander is attending Preschool with hopes of becoming a train
conductor in the near future. When not attending school, Alexander acts as
Anasphere's balloon technician, a position he has held for a little over a year.
While he likes all colors of balloons, he is truly partial to blue. His area
of emphasis at Anasphere is holding on to the balloons using a long piece of
string for as long as he can as well as driving his mother crazy pretending to
pop them. Recently, he has been letting go of his balloons to try and focus
on the variation of flight patterns as they ascend into the atmosphere.
